“The diversity and authenticity you keep in life inspires worldly and pure design at home” - Nicky James

Nicky James - Partner/Principle Designer

My appetite for interiors started at a young age. As the son of a talented craftsman, I was thrown right into the world of dirt, dust and design. I often found myself wandering job sites; envisioning a space to create all on my own. This strong foundation led me to New York University, where I studied studio arts. The thriving conceptual based program opened my mind to social, spontaneous and seductive elements of art and design. For me, those three connections would become the platform for my career in interior design.

For the past 12 years, I have been turning those visions into my own reality. Working closely with clients has brought out a social sense of cultivating unique spaces together - a place comfortable and connected to their lives. My inner spontaneous nature has made for a perfect fit in this expressive industry. Time has shown me that being yourself in the world of design creates an amusing environment for clients, with an exciting diversified product. Something rare, correct… and well, seductive.

At Nicky James Interior Design, uncovering the essence of people is the most exciting part. Watching that come to life through furniture, lighting, color and decor is simply magic. With that comes the goal of surprising our clients, letting them love what’s seen but relish in what’s unexpected. True timeless design means feeling something new whenever you walk into a room.

Leigh Attwood - Partner/Operations and Projects

Client experience is at the forefront of everything I do at Nicky James Interior Design. While my involvement with each project spans many layers - I attend nearly every client meeting with Nicky, work closely with our vendors, and handle the internal coordination that moves ideas from concept into reality - I always try to keep an eye on the smallest details, as I truly believe they make the biggest difference.

With a notebook in hand, I’m often the one quietly listening and observing, making sure no detail gets missed or lost in translation. What might feel like a relaxed conversation between client and designer about their home or lifestyle becomes, for me, a source of a dozen tasks, perhaps a new unspoken deadline or change in project scope, and the spark of the greatest idea we'll develop back in the studio.

I draw on my background in business intelligence and systems to bring structure and process to our work. That means anticipating what needs to happen and when, smoothing things out before they become problems, and keeping the project organized and moving forward. My goal is for the experience to feel calm, considered, and well-managed from start to finish.
